Flight of the Monarch
Originally created for the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary in Monterey, California. The goal of this activity is to simulate the flight of a butterfly. Giving visitors an opportunity to fly like a butterfly and learn how they maneuver with grace and agility.
Goals
- Visitors will learn why butterflies have such large wings.
- Learn facts about the monarch butterfly.
- Interactive flight simulation game experience.
Capturing the visitors’ imagination, the exhibit’s main attraction is a human factor control butterfly flight simulator. Using the Xbox Kinect technology and its ability to recognize human motion and gestures, people of all sizes can control a butterfly’s flight with their body movement to navigate a monarch butterfly through a 3D world.
